In 2022, GeoDrive undertook the task of offshore pile monitoring for the first pile driving endeavor executed by Allseas’ heavy lift vessel Pioneering Spirit. Allseas had secured a contract to install a fixed jacket in the North Sea, topped by an offshore converter topside known as DolWin kappa. This installation was situated adjacent to the offshore converter platform DolWin beta.
Tasked by Allseas, GeoDrive assumed responsibility for the provision of the pile monitoring solutions, encompassing underwater cables, underwater sensor sets, and PDA (Pile Driving Analyzer) measurement systems. GeoDrive monitored three out of the ten piles, which were driven to depths of up to 68 meters into the seabed, and subsequently secured to the foundation structure through grouting procedures. The data obtained from our PDA monitoring equipment facilitated CAPWAP Analysis for each pile, confirming that they had enough load-bearing capacity and thereby ensuring the overall success of the foundation part of the project.
The Dolwin kappa converter station, upon completion, is poised to play an important role in the renewable energy landscape by converting alternating current generated by offshore wind farms into direct current for transmission to Hilgenriedersiel via a subsea cable.
